Chicken or Feathers

April 14th, 2009

Have you ever tried pulling out one Kleenex tissue and five come out? (Try putting those back in the box) It\’s either chicken or feathers. This means there is either plenty to go around OR …there\’s never enough. That\’s what I call Chicken (enough) or Feathers (empty). And what I\’ve found is that I seem to have plenty of “feathers.” Especially around this time of year, TAX TIME. It\’s enough to make me want to give birth again, just for the deductions. Okay, big fat lie. For me, every tax season begins and ends the same way. I retrieve the huge file box that... Read More

Off Kilter

April 14th, 2009

Author: Linda C. Wisniewskiwww.pearlsong.com Reviewed By: Melinda Cianos Striking a balance in life is a process; it\’s tedious at times, and certainly harder for some than others. Linda Wisniewski, “wife, friend, writer, teacher, librarian,” writes about her challenges as she strives to achieve that balance. Linda suffers from scoliosis. Marked physically with the seemingly “off-kilter” framework of her body, it was difficult for her to deny her external “imbalance.” She railed against it, using yoga, stretching and meditation to “untwist”... Read More

Key Largo Underwear

April 14th, 2009

Author: Lea Holderwww.keylargounderwear.com Reviewed By: Georgia Richardson I\’m not sure if it is the difference in the quality of the fabric, or the master sewing of the Key Largo Underwear that sets it apart from the competition. Whether one of these facts or both, in reviewing this product line I was pleasantly surprised to find the fit a perfect one. The fact that I wasn\’t trying to “right the wrong” all day by pulling the underwear in place also showed that it was a good fit. Finally! An undergarment that stays in place; no matter what size you are. The ladies panty is... Read More

What to do When Things Fall Apart?

April 13th, 2009

What Is It Like When Things Fall Apart? Just in the past few months, as our worldwide economy is falling apart, I am witnessing an increase in the number of women who feel their own personal lives are falling apart. They are experiencing not only the usual drain of chronic health issues and conflict-filled relationships but the onslaught on unexpected stressors—being fired or laid off from jobs, the sudden tragic deaths of loved ones, and loss of their homes. None of these events have quick fixes and, indeed, many have no “fix” at all. There is no starting a career over in your sixties when... Read More

Social Networking for Baby Boomers

April 9th, 2009

According to the Pew Internet & American Life Project, one-third of adult Internet users have a profile on a social networking Web site. A recent study by Accenture also shows baby boomers onboard with a 59% increase in using social networking sites. There’s a big misconception that baby boomers might not be tech savvy enough to keep the pace with the younger generations, but as these reports share, this isn’t the case. You have to give the baby boomer generation more credit than that. We’re trendsetters, remember? And we aren’t going to let a new trend get by us. No way. That might... Read More

Getting Rid of Mental Clutter

April 7th, 2009

The words clutter and de-clutter weren\’t in my vocabulary six years ago. As with other things in our culture, TV often leads the way in what Americans focus on. The shows, “Mission Organization” and “Clean Sweep” have brought these two words into our living rooms and beyond. It occurred to me recently that my mind was becoming cluttered. Because I am a professional organizer, that bothered me. Even though I have not yet succumbed to the plethora of technology gadgets that are available, I do make use of a few of them. My computer has generated the most mental clutter that I deal... Read More
