I love before and after stories, transformations of style and attitude. Sherry Mathieson, a “nationally known style-consultant” creates Steal This Style and voila: transformations galore unfold in a vibrant expose of forward-looking fashion for women over forty. As I grow older I find myself looking for permission to be stylish without being too trendy, to celebrate my figure without appearing youth-obsessed. What\’s a girl to do? Hats off (along with old ill-fitting jeans, and frumpy skirts and shirts) to Mathieson and her dynamic display of what to do, and what not to do, in search of “forever cool”—she makes the dilemma so much easier for me to solve.

Mathieson pairs mothers with their daughters and together they celebrate style, color, and texture throughout the glossy-paged manual for holding onto a youthful and tasteful image as we mature. Mothers are encouraged to adopt fashion ideas from their daughters while amending their wardrobe choices to accommodate different body shape, skin tone and hair color. A little attention ensures not making a less-than-flattering fashion statement.

Browse the list of websites that Mathieson provides for reinforcement and extra help whenever you may need it. And don\’t forget accessories, they can often make or break an outfit. There is an entire chapter devoted to these seemingly insignificant details — how weighty they really are! The book is as much fun as it is informative and is a visual treat.
