Author and licensed mental health counselor Amy Sherman offers her tips on aging gently with her e-book “Distress Free Aging.” Labeled as the “Boomer’s Guide to Creating a Fulfilled and Purposeful Life,” Distress-Free Aging lends another approach to tackling midlife’s issues. The acceptance of the changes we face, both in mind and body, does not have to squelch our desire, energy or passion. On the contrary; that acceptance, along with a few simple behavior modifications, positive self-talk techniques, and an open mind makes it possible to embark on a rich and vibrant existence in the second half of our lives.

Norman Vincent Peale states, “Change your thoughts and you change your world.” Sherman helps us along with chapters focusing on self-motivation and facing problems as challenges. The chapters are followed by an “insight exercise” that helps with the application of the strategies discussed. Often we are aware of the changes we can make to positively affect our lives but we lack direction; if suggested approaches seem too overwhelming we may not try, and if they are too simplistic, we may not trust their value. Distress-Free Aging strikes a nice balance; just enough to jump start the reader into the lively creation of a life filled with purpose.
