Maria Pascucci is “a former college perfectionist and stressaholic” who feels there is an overwhelming need for practical ways to relax, enjoy, and make the most of the college experience so that it yields the desired results: pointing to, and providing the tools for, a bright future. You may be getting ready to send your child off to his or her first year of college; you may find yourself listening to the heavy sighs and sobs of a fretting sophomore or junior; you may be like me: two in college along with myself—all of us struggling with paper after paper, project after project, deadline after deadline. Might I say, Pascucci’s wise and insightful words are crucial for all of us—regardless of age or circumstance. Here is the message: seize learning wherever and whenever you find it, realizing that much of what you learn will be outside of the classroom.

Pascucci pushes the student to open himself/herself to the possibilities that fall outside of rigid class schedules: interesting internship opportunities, free seminars, ways to foster and broaden creativity, avenues for harnessing passion, etc… A purposeful life is only achievable when one finds and settles into their individual talents—happiness and fulfillment is almost effortless when you’re doing what you love and a successful college experience can help you find that passion.

I absolutely loved this book. It is jam-packed with ideas for making the most of college so that does what it should: hone in on an individual’s strengths and identify the weaknesses—both with intention of growth. Sift through the 10 chapters of everything from interviews with professionals on what makes the college graduate marketable and a worthwhile employee, to the testimonials from students who have wrestled with issues to finally find themselves. It is all here in an entertaining, informative format. Both parents and students (and the few that are student and parent at the same time!) will find calming strategies galore in Campus Calm University and have no problem enjoying themselves while exploring the options.
