Aging gracefully. Aging happily. Aging beautifully. There is a plethora of material out there, in the way of books CDs and DVDs, that claims to have the formula for successfully ushering the baby boomer woman into the second half of her life; depositing her there equipped with all that’s necessary to unleash forgotten potential and find happiness. Honestly, some of the material is downright exhausting, not so with Maggie Crane’s Amazing Grays. In a voice that is pleasant, reassuring and knowledgeable, Crane delivers to the reader insights that are beneficial to women over the age of fifty, and couples it with suggested application. She embraces creativity and reason; acceptance and challenge; enthusiasm and relaxation. Twenty-one chapters addressing a multitude of issues like finding a fresh perspective on aging, or how best to balance changing hormone levels. Crane has done the homework so you don’t have to, and she is all too happy to share the answers with you.

I love this witty and warm assessment of mid-life and all the wonderful—yes, I said ‘wonderful’—opportunities it has to offer. In the words of a Chinese Proverb: “Tension is who you think you should be; relaxation is who you are.” Good advice for any age; but especially poignant for “fifty-something” women who are reaching to define themselves as the fifties are touted as the new thirties. Amazing Grays does a superb job introducing balance and harmony in the face of change.
