Elana is compromised in two significant areas: her career and her self-esteem. Getting older and a tad heavier, she wonders if she will ever achieve the success she knows she deserves watching the younger, slimmer, and more polished rise above her.

She lives in a slightly futuristic Manhattan, New York. Author Rivka Tadjer twists technology with dieting trends to spin Elana\’s sinister tale, and it is a frighteningly plausible one. What if you could go to sleep for two weeks and wake up twenty pounds lighter? I know it sounds horrific…but what if it were just that simple? What if shedding that unwanted extra weight immediately got you the promotion you deserved, or allowed you to keep your job and/or your shallow boyfriend? It is not so hard to imagine wanting to sleep away your apparent nemesis, now is it?

Elana is no longer willing to take a back seat to those she believes are less talented than she; it\’s now or never to make her mark; whatever the cost. But when the cost gets steeper than she ever thought possible, her world is turned upside-down and she helplessly gropes for someone to trust, hoping her choice doesn\’t cost her her life.
