From This Moment

February 1st, 2006

“…Keep yourselves in God\’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.” – Jude 1:21 niv I attended two weddings in one weekend one hour apart. The first ceremony was held in a small, Pentecostal church with under a hundred guests in attendance. The entire bridal party consisted of a matron of honor and two flower girls. The forty-something first-time bride glowed in her traditional white gown with beads, lace, and sequins. Gail walked down the aisle to the music of “From This Moment” sung by a trio of friends and relatives. When the... Read More

Living With Eternity in Mind

January 1st, 2006

“…Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 3:13-14 Every year at this time a lot of people make many promises. Some of the New Year\’s Resolutions I have heard (or made) are: “I am going to pray an hour each day.” “I intend to read the entire Bible!” “I will lose thirty pounds!” “I promise to be nice to everyone I meet.” By the end of January, the list looks more like this: “I am going to pray when I can.” “I intend to read... Read More

One Hundred Steps

December 1st, 2005

Did you know it takes walking 10,000 steps or 4.5 miles a day to lose one pound? I bought a pedometer and was disheartened to see that I walked about 3,000 steps in a day. But on one particular occasion, one hundred steps made a difference. My husband, Don, and I traveled to Columbus, Ohio for business. We checked in, got settled in our room, and Don departed in our car to attend a meeting. I basked in the peace and quiet, and took out a book to read. Soon hunger pains pulled me from my book. I needed a snack, so I phoned the front desk to ask where I could find a vending machine. The woman who... Read More

Giving Thanks

November 1st, 2005

”I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.” – Psalm 69:30 From time to time it\’s nice to get away from our daily routine. In autumn, a drive through the mountains to enjoy the spectacular range of color the Lord has created can be restorative. Recently I made such a trip to Gatlinburg, Tennessee with my family. The weather cooperated with temperatures in the seventies and a slight breeze. Just right. Right? Wrong! It looked as if everyone who goes to Gatlinburg showed up that weekend. You couldn\’t move your car down the main street... Read More

Run of the Mill

October 1st, 2005

”Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1 Do you sometimes feel as if you\’re stuck on one of those hamster wheels? You run and run, and get nowhere. I\’ve felt like that lately. I\’ve been making yet another effort to get into shape, and I\’m focusing less on appearance this time. In my younger days, I aimed for a goal weight or a pant size. Not any more. This time, my goal... Read More
