In Dr. Alisa Kauffman Own Words:
In 1988, I had an epiphany. My best friend Beth Wilf’s father had impeccable oral health. He knew the importance of great oral hygiene and was on a regular every-three-month schedule with the hygienist at the office of Dr. Igor Gerzon, a prosthodontist and my husband. However, a stroke left Mr. Moorstein without speech and without the ability to brush and floss his teeth on his own.
When it came time to see the hygienist after his stroke, he had to cancel. That was my moment to step in and help. I absolutely love helping someone to heal. Whether I am extracting a painful tooth or feel the joy of seeing a patient take the first bite of food and chew it with new, well-fitting dentures that I created.
Treating Mr. Moorstein was the first time I attended to a patient in their home, and thus, Geriatric Housecall Dentistry was born. The core services of Geriatric House Call Dentistry include emergency visits, second opinions, exams, cleanings, small fillings, ARREST (Silver Diamine Fluoride) treatment, extractions, partial and denture repair, fabricating complete and partial dentures.
Dr. Alisa Kauffman teaches caregivers how to perform oral care on those who refuse or are unable to care for their own teeth. Alisa always tells her patients, “we only brush the teeth that we want to keep!”
