If it Sounds too Good to be True…

We\’re familiar with the saying, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” (too good to be true). Well, what if you\’re looking for free land? Is this possible in the United States?

The surprising answer is yes! Today, I\’m going to share with you a site that describes how you can get free land in exchange for residency: www.KansasFreeLand.com. What\’s the deal here? As the site explains, “The ‘free land\’ program was designed as a means of fighting declining populations and out-migration of local folks to larger cities. Free land can be had in exchange for residency in our rural communities.” Right now, there are about a dozen Kansas towns offering this deal. No, you won\’t have your Starbucks or a stadium-style seating theater, but you may revel in small town living, enjoy a slower pace of life, and know all your neighbors.

What\’s the catch? None, really. You do have to live there for five years, and there are some reasonable requirements – for example, in Atwood, Kansas, you must choose a builder within six months, commence building within twelve months, and complete construction within eighteen months. Some of the towns (such as Atwood) offer free land for your business as well!

To use another cliché, is it true that “the best things in life are free”? If you\’re looking to relocate in a small-town in Kansas, the answer can by yes!
