From Gloom to Zoom

July 13th, 2010

Everybody has a “grouchy” day now and then. Today was mine. If I\’d met “Little Miss Mary Sunshine,” I\’d probably have beaten her to a pulp. Yes, I know the Queen doesn\’t normally feel icky, but after a night of tossin\’ and turnin,\’ I stumbled to the kitchen only to find that Mr. Coffee had died. I began looking for fresh meat. THE SON hid, and the cat moved out. Wimps. Luckily, I remembered what my beloved humorist, Daddy, used to say. “Whining is for sissies, kiddo. You always have two choices. Whine about it, or change it.” Course this is also... Read More

The Dangerous Price of Preferring Fantasy

July 12th, 2010

Romantic fantasies, like drugs and alcohol, offer the hope of getting what you believe you can\’t get on your own. Also like drugs, they are temporary and never ultimately satisfying. When the spell dissolves, you\’re lost in the pit of heartbreak, shortchanged by life yet again. On the other hand, when fantasy is not a substitute for reality, it can be a playful source of pleasure. You can slip beyond the limits of daily life and play in a make-believe world. You get to go anywhere, be anyone and experience anything you like. However, enjoying romantic fantasies is one thing. Preferring... Read More

Who wears short shorts? Or rather who should wear short shorts?

July 12th, 2010

Due to the incredible heat and humidity lately–I\’ve envied every gal who could still wear the most abbreviated variety–and do so appropriately. But alas, I\’m of the age where I need to summon self discipline and good judgement– and find cool clothing that serves me well these summer days. Here are some of the points I want to make. I think shorts are great for hot weather–but the appropriateness factor looms large. Age and physique are both important . A very young woman can get away with shorties (short shorts)– Still there is a point of indecency... Read More

Why Can’t We Get Along

July 12th, 2010

Baby boomers, empty nesters, new parents, grandparents, newlyweds, adult children, teens, divorced families, well you can add to this list, all wonder , WHY CAN”T WE GET ALONG? You are not going to be able to change me and I won’t be able to change you. Why is that idea so difficult? Parents want to change their children and their spouses for that matter. Children want their parents to change. The key to the heart is negotiating and acceptance. The myth is once you learn that, it will stick. Not true. Practice means practice.
