Clothes Hound, Bound, and Down…Under

October 14th, 2008

Baby Boomers were born between the years 1946-1964 and I\’m happy to be a part of this wonderful generation. After all, we had great music, great heroes, and great clothes. But that was then—and this is now. There seems to be a large number of boomers who refuse to leave their youth behind and gracefully enter into the beautiful world of midlife. The proof is everywhere. I\’m talking about people wearing articles of clothing clearly designed for the most recent generation; their children. Last week at a party, a boomer woman was going on and on and on and on (insert jealousy) about... Read More

Honey, I Am Having a Business

October 14th, 2008

I coach a lot of new business owners-many of them are women-and most of them have a common struggle. They have a spouse that gets stressed about the amount of money and time it takes to build a profitable business. I know-the irony-it takes money to make money. Here are some of my recent thoughts on how you might help your non-entrepreneurial husband understand your need to “have this business”. First-sit your husband down and break the news. Say it slowly so that he actually thinks you will say “baby” at the end and then be relieved when you say “business” instead. So... Read More

Setting Boundaries with Your Adult Children

October 14th, 2008

Author: Allison Bottkewww.AllisonBottke.com Reviewed By: Melinda Cianos We know it\’s not going to be easy, this business of parenting; it is a test of our will, our patience, our resolve—but with it comes the ultimate expressions of love. Parenting is an awesome, complex and daunting, task. Things go wrong, mistakes are made, learning occurs—all with the hope that there will be growth and a deeper understanding as our relationships with our children evolve. But sometimes circumstances do not unfold this way, and a child may go astray; so far that they are pitifully hard to reach. If... Read More

Hot Issues, Cool Choices

October 14th, 2008

Author: Sandra McLeod Humphreywww.stopbullyingnow.com Reviewed By: Melinda Cianos Author Sandra McLeod Humphrey has written Hot Issues, Cool Choices for girls and boys ages ten and up. This compilation of fictional scenarios gives the young student an opportunity to reflect on circumstances that may arise with their peers, thereby giving them a chance to arrive at possible solutions before they find themselves face-to face with those circumstances. The concept is a good one; teachers and parents realize that most of the decision making that children in this age group are engaged in is happening... Read More

1-2-3 Find My Dream

October 7th, 2008

“But I don’t know what my dream is,” my friend sighed. She sounded frustrated. I don’t think I’ve ever talked with someone who actually wants to live a boring, uninspiring life. In fact, most people get pretty excited when they think about what it would be like to follow their passion and purpose every day. The problem is, it isn’t that easy. Simply liking the idea of turning your dreams into reality isn’t enough to make it happen. For people like my friend, they’ve been stuck in the life that’s just happened to them for so long, they’re no longer sure what their dream even... Read More
