The Danger Season

December 10th, 2007

With all the good will and cheer of this season, how can it be a dangerous one? Because it is often the season of “too much.” We may party too much, spend too much, drink too much alcohol, smoke too many cigarettes, and of course, eat too much. But this isn\’t a lecture on moderating all of those activities we overdo every December. This is about sweets. Sugar. Simple carbs. (A clarification here: by “sweets” I mean simple carbohydrates only, or those foods that go directly into your bloodstream as sugar, such as cakes, candy, pastries, white breads and ice cream.... Read More

GREAT GIFTS FOR YOUR AGING LOVED ONE

December 10th, 2007

Finding the perfect gift is challenging under any circumstances but buying for an aging loved one can be particularly difficult. Obviously you want to get them something they want but it really no longer makes sense for you to get them yet another doll for their doll collection or yet another tie because, hopefully at this point, they\’re getting rid of stuff. So what do you do? Think in terms of what they really want but that they may not know they want. FOR EXAMPLE: Put old family movies onto DVDs for them – and give a copy to everyone else in the family, too. Just keep in mind that... Read More

Creating Your Healthy Money Mindset

December 10th, 2007

Your money mindset allows you to dream big and live your passion in this life in three ways. One: Believing in Abundance Right now you believe many goals are attainable and many are not. The way we were raised and our current environment dictate our beliefs and unless we are challenged and taught to believe differently, we stay stuck. Today, open up your mind to abundance. Take a financial goal and rewrite it in an abundant mindset. Try to make yourself believe that you can accomplish it even if there is a nagging voice saying “no way!” Then put it where you can see it every day.... Read More

You Are Unique! Accept It!

December 4th, 2007

There are things I don\’t like about myself. For one, I\’m much too anxious. I apparently have been dealt an unusually high number of stress hormones. No matter how many positive messages I give myself, there are situations to which I react with sheer panic. This can make life most uncomfortable, to say the least. Then there are the painful joints and a torn tendon that are the blessings of activity and age. Other things I don\’t like, that really don\’t matter much, are straight baby-fine hair, glasses, and orthopedic shoes. I\’m working on managing my variety of... Read More

The NABBW WantsYour Feedback!

November 29th, 2007

Dear NABBW Members,I wanted to do something a little bit different, so I\’m switching gears for this week only. The NABBW 2008 Editiorial Calendar is almost complete. As you know, our mission remains educating and empowering boomer women. We want you to be the best you can be at this time in your life. Our generation is approaching this stage differently than generations before us. We see this as a jumping off point and a time to get jazzed about our second adulthood. So, our plan for 2008 is to focus on specific topics each month. This means our teleseminars and NABBW Updates will pertain... Read More

Chocolat a Paris

November 15th, 2007

Ah, Paris! Strolling along the Seine, window shopping on Avenue Montaigne, gazing at the Mona Lisa.. Sure, you can do all those things (and at some point, you should!). Moi, however? Well, on my most recent visit, I had another goal in mind….sample as many of Paris\’ legendary chocolate and pastry shops as I could (without making myself sick, or a candidate for the South Beach diet when I returned)! I know…it was a tough assignment, but hey, I was up to the challenge. And it was all in the name of research, wasn\’t it? Not to mention, with all the news out now about the... Read More

HOT COALS

November 15th, 2007

Involved in an expensive developmental workshop, Chad volunteered first when the facilitator queried the group about their objectives. It was the morning session of a weekend event that a friend of mine was conducting, and she\’d asked me to sit-in. So, on a Saturday morning when I\’d normally be sleeping, I found myself listening to Chad\’s frustrations about his lack of success, his inflexible boss, and his difficult coworkers. What sounded like normal workplace frustrations most people experience from time to time changed abruptly when my friend asked Chad if it had always... Read More

How to Stay Motivated!

November 15th, 2007

How to Stay Motivated! A few NABBW members, friends and even a family member have asked me, “What to do? How can I to stay motivated?” Ahh … the $64 million question! People often say that motivation doesn\’t last. Well, neither does bathing -that\’s why we recommend it daily. ~ Zig Ziglar There\’s your answer! Zig Ziglar said it best. We have to renew our enthusiasm, motivation, Joie de Vie on a daily basis! I sip my morning coffee and think about where I\’m going, how I\’m getting there, and then I read something that fires me up and carries... Read More

Resume Writing and Interviewing

November 15th, 2007

Are you older than 45? By 2010, the Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that about one-third of the labor force will be comprised of “mature” workers (defined as over 45). If you are planning on returning to work during your retirement years, you may have to update (or dust off) your resume. Don\’t feel obligated to list every job you\’ve ever had; concentrate on those positions that are pertinent to the employment you are seeking. If you\’re looking to change careers, or if you\’re reentering the workforce after a hiatus, concentrate on the transferable skills... Read More
